How Much Should a Small Business Website Really Cost?

Website prices vary because not every quote includes the same work or ownership rights. Here's how to compare offers sensibly, including what SANTRIL's fixed-price packages cover.

Why do quotes for business websites vary so much?

One provider may quote for a simple website with a few pages. Another may be pricing an online shop, custom booking system, photography, copywriting and months of marketing. They are not the same job, so the headline prices are not directly comparable.

Before asking whether a website is cheap or expensive, decide what your business actually needs people to do. For many small service businesses, a clear homepage, a few useful pages and a working way to make contact can be a good starting point.

You do not need the most complicated website available. You need one that represents your business properly and gives customers a clear next step.

What should you expect to be included in the price?

Ask every provider for a written list of what is included. A quote for five pages might include mobile-friendly design and a contact form, while another might charge separately for those items. Check whether you will supply the words and images or whether the provider will create them.

Also ask what happens after you review the first version. Does the price include corrections? What counts as a change of scope? When does the delivery timescale start? Clear answers are more valuable than an impressive promise to build everything.

  • How many pages and what type of pages are included?
  • Is the website designed to work on phones as well as computers?
  • Will contact forms and links be checked before launch?
  • Who provides the written content, branding and photographs?
  • What revisions, launch work and handover are included?

What does SANTRIL Website Launch currently offer?

SANTRIL's published Standard Website package is £495 for one professional brochure-style website with up to five standard pages. The offer includes responsive design and a defined build and handover process. It is designed for businesses that want a proper online presence without commissioning a large custom project.

The Priority Website package is £795. It has the same website scope as Standard; the additional £300 buys priority in the production queue, not extra pages or features.

The advertised ready-to-launch target is within five working days for Standard or two working days for Priority once the delivery clock has started. That clock starts only after the necessary payment, completed intake, content and assets, domain decision, access and production confirmation are in place. It is not a promise that a website will be live two days after an incomplete order.

What about support after the website goes live?

The published optional Website Care plan is £29 per month for basic oversight and minor updates. It includes up to 30 minutes of human work per calendar month, without rollover. It is not a replacement for a major redesign, SEO campaign or new feature build. Extra work is separately quoted under the published terms.

Do you have to take Website Care?

No. SANTRIL's Website Launch offer does not require a compulsory monthly agency contract as part of the standard website purchase. Decide whether occasional help would be useful to your business rather than paying for a service you do not need.

Which costs can continue after launch?

A website being yours does not mean that every service connected to it becomes free forever. A domain name must normally be renewed. You may need ongoing hosting, business email or optional paid services. These are separate from the initial design work and should be clear before you buy.

For SANTRIL Website Launch, domain registration or renewal, Google Workspace and optional paid third-party services are customer-paid separately. Confirm the setup that suits you and keep control of the relevant accounts.

Ask the provider who owns the domain account, who can update the website and whether leaving them later will involve extra work. Those questions help you understand the total commitment, not just the starting price.

How do you choose the right website option?

If you mainly need a trustworthy, mobile-friendly site showing what you do and how to contact you, start with a defined brochure-site package. If you need online payments, complicated integrations or specialist functions, ask for a separate scope rather than assuming they are included.

Compare like for like. A good quote should tell you what you will receive, what you must provide, when the work can begin, what you will own and what it will cost to keep the site operating.

The best website for a small business is not necessarily the one with the most features. It is the one that customers can use and the business can afford to maintain.
